Empty Chairs Outside Georgia Capitol Represent Nearly 10,000 COVID-19 Deaths

A group of COVID-19 survivors remembered those who have died with 1,000 empty chairs set up in front of the Georgia Capitol Wednesday.

Each chair represented nearly 10 Georgians who have died from COVID-19 this year as well as those who suffered lingering symptoms for months after clearing the virus.

Georgia Reports Much Less Medicaid Data To The Feds Than It Used To

Nine years ago, Georgia reported ample data to the feds on the health care quality of its Medicaid and PeachCare programs. In fact, a federal report at that time praised Georgia’s “proactive role in designing its data systems to support quality measurement.”

But according to a Georgia Health News analysis, for the past two years, Georgia reported only a fraction of the information the federal Core Set requested.

Most PPP Aid In Georgia Went To Big, Not Small Businesses, Data Show

More than half the funds received by Georgia companies as part of a federal loan program meant to support small businesses during the pandemic went to large companies that received loans of $3 million or more, according to newly released data from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Unfounded conspiracy theories about the presidential election in Georgia hound Republican Gov. Brian Kemp even as he works to get the word out about Georgia’s new COVID-19 vaccination plan.

Following a COVID-19 update Tuesday inside the Capitol, Kemp was approached by a group of demonstrators with two large bags they said contained more than 2,000 letters urging Kemp to call a special session of the state Legislature to investigate claimed election irregularities and potentially change the results of Georgia’s election won by President-elect Joe Biden.
