Civil rights attorneys announced Monday they filed a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta for the death of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner during demonstrations last summer.

Political Rewind: Officials Struggle To Tackle Gun Violence, Homicide Rate In Ga. And Across Nation

Tuesday on Political Rewind: A high number of incidents of gun violence are gripping the nation. Georgia communities are struggling to address the issue. And the family of Secoriea Turner has now filed lawsuits against Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and other Atlanta city leaders, accusing them of failing to protect the life of the 8-year-old girl who was struck down last summer.

‘A Bright Light, Extinguished’: A Civil Rights Attorney Fights For Secoriea Turner’s Justice

When Secoriea Turner, an 8-year-old Black girl from west Atlanta, was killed in the aftermath of Rayshard Brooks’ death, civil rights attorney Mawuli Davis knew something had to be done.

“We believe Secoriea should be lifted up as a martyr of this movement,” he said.
