Karen Garland, a K-5 science teacher, shares what new concepts rising second graders can expect to learn and ways caregivers can help their children get ready for the new school year over the summer.

The skills presented in this video were identified by the Georgia Department of Education's division of curriculum and instruction based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).

The activities are not required, and students won't be expected to know all of the information at the beginning of the school year. A second grade teacher will meet each student where they are!

These are meant to be guides since every student learns at his or her own pace. Teachers will be ready to meet students where they are when they reach a new grade level.
