Atlanta protest update: National Guard troops arrive downtown; Memphis releases Tyre Nichols video

Law enforcement across the country were on alert Friday evening for possible unrest in response to the release of the video footage of the arrest of Tyre Nichols. Nichols was beaten by police during a traffic stop in Memphis on Jan. 7 and died Jan. 10 from his injuries. Protests began shortly after the release of the video Friday evening. Demonstrations began in Memphis, New York City, Atlanta and other cities.

Hurricane Ian nears Cuba on path to strike Florida as Category 4 storm

Hurricane Ian is nearing Cuba on a track to strike Florida as a Category 4 as early as Wednesday. Ian is already getting stronger and is forecast to move quickly over Cuba's western tip on Monday. Then it will turn northward and slow down over warm Gulf of Mexico waters, conditions ripe for brewing the strongest hurricanes.
