$3M in federal money will help GA farms and businesses with clean energy, saving money

Millions of dollars are going to Georgia farms and small businesses in an effort to help implement renewable energy technology, federal officials said Friday. On Friday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced $3.1 million dollars would go to farms and small businesses in rural Georgia from grants that mainly stem from the Inflation Reduction Act.

Rare snail slowly crawls back from near extinction along northwest Georgia river

The interrupted rocksnail was once thought to be extinct, but in 1997, the United States Geological Survey found a single specimen. The researchers located enough snails to begin breeding them in captivity, and they’ve been releasing them in the thousands in an attempt to give them a second chance at life.

For the first time in history, the Department of Interior investigated the federal Indian boarding school system across the United States, identifying more than 400 schools and over 50 burial sites. Georgia was home to two of those schools, which were attended by indigenous children who were taken away from their families and attempted to assimilate them through education — and, often, physical punishment.
