Monument to Coretta Scott King dedicated in Atlanta

Atlanta has a new monument and garden celebrating and honoring the legacy of civil rights activist Coretta Scott King. The Coretta Scott King Peace and Meditation Garden and monument were dedicated on Thursday, which would have been her 96th birthday.

Xernona Clayton — the woman, the legend — now has a statue in Atlanta

On International Women's Day, Atlanta's own trailblazer — by way of Muskogee, Oklahoma — Xernona Clayton was celebrated with a bronze statue in the heart of the city. She says she asked sculptor Ed Dwight to make her look like a combination of Halle Berry, Lena Horne and Coretta Scott King. Her verdict? "Fabulous!"

A new scholarship program for students at historically black colleges and universities bears the name of the former United Nations Ambassador. McGraw Hill Education, an arm of McGraw Hill publishing, put up an initial $50,000 for the Andrew Young HBCU Scholarship Program, which will fund 10 first-year students next fall who plan to attend an HBCU.
