The unemployment rates for August decreased in many regions in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that metro Atlanta’s unemployment rate decreased to 8.0 percent in August, down six-tenths of a percentage point from 8.6 percent in July. The rate was 8.9 percent in August a year ago.

Metro Atlanta’s unemployment rate is not the only region in Georgia that decreased for the month of August; the unemployment rate also dropped in Albany, Athens, Augusta, Brunswick, Columbus, Dalton, Gainesville and Hinesville as well. Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 6.1 percent, while the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 11.9 percent.
