High School Football Has Become Big Business in Georgia

Football season in Georgia is big, real big.

College football is no longer just Georgia, Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern. Schools like Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, and Reinhardt all have football programs underway.

High School football has gone from a local Friday night pastime to a state, regional, and national television experience. A perfect example is the Norcross high football team which will have every regular season game broadcast on television this season.

Football is so big in Athens that some tailgating parking spots are sold complete with a property owners association.

This week on Georgia Works Radio we talk to:

  • Jon Nelson, Georgia Public Broadcasting football expert and noted author
  • Christian Shupe, Morning Edition Host @ WUGA and developer of the UGA Tailgating Station
  • Brian Bohannon, Kennesaw State Universities First-ever Head Football Coach
