Children's Healthcare is Adding 50 Additional Beds as Part of $19 million expansion

A $19 million expansion is planned by Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Egleston and Scottish Rite hospitals.

The investment is expected to add 50 new beds and an undisclosed number of new jobs.

According to a report in the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the expansion is driven by demand from an expanding pediatric population in metro Atlanta, said David Tatum, vice president of government affairs at Children’s Healthcare. The occupancy rate at Egleston and Scottish Rite hospitals are at 79 percent “In a children’s hospital, when you start getting toward 80 percent occupancy, you’ve got full utilization,” Tatum said. “We’ve got greater demand for our services ... hence our desire to add more capacity to keep up with the needs of the community.”
