In the latest Downton Abbey Season 4 preview clip we see just how badly Mary is taking Matthew’s death. Bad is an understatement. In the first few seconds of the video, the poor widow Crawley has an outburst at the dinner table.

“My husband is dead. Afterall he suffered in the war, he’s killed in a stupid car crash. Isn’t that enough for me to deal with," she exclaims. “Leave me alone.”

(We hear you Lady Mary! We feel your pain)

The rest of the clip shows the family’s attempts to bring the despondent Mary back to life again. Carson gives her a frank pep talk. When Robert tells Lady Violet that they should keep Mary sheltered the Dowager disagrees.

“No job it is our job to bring her back to the world.”
