Curtis Harding, who has collaborated with CeeLo Green and opened for Lenny Kravitz, will bring his "slop 'n' soul" music to the stage at the 2019 Shaky Knees Music Festival.

You may have heard Curtis Harding's voice before, perhaps without realizing it. That's because, for a number of years, he worked with a familiar Atlanta native: CeeLo Green. Harding sang back-up vocals for CeeLo and even co-wrote songs with the Grammy Award-winning musician, like "Grand Canyon" — which was a bonus track on CeeLo's 2010 album, The Lady Killer

After that and several other collaborations, Harding launched his solo career, applying his distinctive falsetto vocals to his own style of music, which he calls "slop 'n' soul."

On Second Thought host Virginia Prescott speaks with Curtis Harding.

"At the time, I figured if I didn't call it something, somebody else would," Harding said.

But, why "slop 'n' soul"?

"You know, soul is the foundation," Harding explained. "On the farm, slop is what you give to pigs. It's an amalgamation of just like, everything that's from the table and feed and whatever else that helps sustain the farm. And it flows and it's funky; it's runny sometimes. You know, my music is a mixture of different genres and ideas."

Harding has released two full-length albums, Soul Power in 2014 and Face Your Fear in 2017. Last year, he embarked on a U.S. and European tour, opening for another Grammy Award-winning performer, Lenny Kravitz. Now, he's hitting the stage on the first day of the 2019 Shaky Knees Music Festival. First, he joined On Second Thought to talk about his music and career.
