When the top-ranked Colquitt County Packers line up against the second-ranked Grayson Rams Friday night on GPB, many believe this just may be a preview of the GHSA 7A State Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in December.

The Packers have started the season 5-0 and not one of their games have been decided by less than four touchdowns … and they haven’t been playing The Sisters of the Poor. Every one of the teams they have beaten have been ranked in the Top 10 in their respective classifications: McEachern, St. Louis Trinity Catholic, Thomasville, Valdosta and Warner Robins. Grayson will mark the sixth Top 10 team they’ve played out of six.

The Rams are 3-1 with victories over Tucker, Marietta and Westlake. Grayson’s one loss came to New Jersey’s Bergen Catholic. Again all Top 10-rated programs with the exception of Westlake, a program that reached the state semifinals just two years ago.

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two state powers with three of the previous four match-ups coming in the state quarterfinals and twice in the semifinals. The beauty of this game Friday night is regardless of the outcome, nothing is really on the line other than bragging rights. That will likely not be the case when they meet again. It should be a ton of fun with plenty of college prospects on the field to entertain your imagination should one of them choose your favorite program.
