Staffing minimum rules for dementia, assisted living communities will not be lowered as proposed

In 2020, organizations including the Georgia Council on Aging advocated on behalf of residents, families, and caregivers to successfully pass a bill that strengthened staffing requirements and increased maximum fines for violations. But a bill proposed this session would have lowered those minimum staffing requirements.

Man accused of torching police motorcycles in attack authorities have linked to 'Cop City' protests

A man believed to be one of the opponents of a planned police and firefighter training facility in Atlanta has been arrested on charges of torching eight police motorcycles last summer. The attack was one of about two dozen acts of arson that officials have linked to protests against a facility that opponents call "Cop City."

Above the Waterline: RiverLands offers new Chattahoochee access

Today, the Chattahoochee River between the city of Atlanta and West Point Lake — a 70-mile stretch with forested riverbanks, rocky shoals, rural communities, and cultural sites — is no longer regularly polluted with the city’s waste. Once considered off-limits for recreation due to chronic sewage overflows and polluted storm runoff, this previously blighted section is on the cusp of becoming a major destination for outdoor experiences.

A Georgia man affiliated with the Oath Keepers militia group became the second Capitol rioter to plead guilty to seditious conspiracy for his actions leading up and through the attack. The sentencing guidelines for Brian Ulrich, who also pleaded guilty to obstructing an official proceeding, were estimated to be 5 ¼ years to 6 ½ years in prison.
