Georgia board set to raise fees at state parks

The next time you want to take in some of Georgia’s natural beauty at one of its state parks, it could cost you a little more. Or at least it will if the Board of Natural Resources signs off Tuesday on a proposal to raise fees.

From oyster brood to table, a photo essay

Georgia just wrapped up its first summer oyster harvest season. Traditionally, oyster harvesting was limited to cooler months, with the season closing from May 1 to Sept. 30, when bacteria harmful to humans, like Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, are most active. New regulations passed by the Georgia Board of Natural Resources’ Coastal Resources Division now permit closed-season harvesting under strict conditions.

Glynn slow to shut off brighter turtle-confusing lights near Buc-ee’s

Glynn County has not turned off controversial lighting at the I-95 exit for Buc-ee’s convenience store despite getting written permission to do so earlier this month from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Killing GA’s non-venomous snakes may bring more trouble than you think

Georgia ranks eighth among states with the most snake species, according to the World Population Review, but only seven out of 47 are venomous. Despite this, it is illegal to kill non-venomous snakes and most nongame animals in the state of Georgia.
