Every Bibb County School will soon have a sensory room. What are they for?

At its monthly meeting in October, the board voted to expand sensory rooms to each of the district’s 34 schools to allow for a safe space where students may recalibrate, recollect and self-regulate.

Waiving state certification can make it easier for school districts to fill vacancies amid the shrinking pool of experienced educators and fewer in college studying to become educators. Waiver teachers make up about a quarter of Bibb Schools’ teachers.

New automated traffic cameras catch thousands speeding in Bibb County school zones

Bibb County installed three automated school zone speed cameras in the late spring with plans to install more in the coming months. In the final two weeks of school, more than 2,000 citations were issued and more than 5,000 received warning letters in the mail.

A Southwest High School football player died Monday night after collapsing at the team’s practice earlier in the day. 15-year-old Joshua Ivory Jr. died following a medical emergency at practice, according to the Bibb County School District.
