NEWS FLASH: VENUE CHANGE! #JazzAtTheG Will Take Place at Jaguar Student Activity Center (JSAC) Ballroom - located adjacent to GRU Summerville Ampitheatre!

Augusta native Wycliffe Gordon is “the man”.

In jazz circles, when you talk about over-the-top trombone talent, nobody even comes close. He’s been named “Best in Trombone” by the Downbeat Critics Poll three years running, and the Jazz Journalists Association named him “Trombonist of the Year” in 2013.

This year, Wycliffe is “Artist-In-Residence” at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, and the students in the music department are loving it! Face time with one of music’s greats in an unforgettable experience. Now, Wycliffe Gordon is preparing an unforgettable experience for music lovers in the area.

On Saturday March 14th at 6pm, he’s bringing his International All-Star Band to the Jaguar Student Activity Center Ballroom on the Summerville Campus of Georgia Regents University as part of GPB-Augusta’s “Jazz at the G” series. This is Wycliffe Gordon as Augusta has never seen him before: accompanied by the musicians with whom he plays concerts around the world…all making their first-ever appearances in Augusta -- Bass: Yasushi Nakamura (Japan); Piano: Ehud Asherie (Israel); Reeds: Adrian Cunningham (Australia); Drums: Alvin Atkinson Jr (North Carolina). These players are arguably the best in the business…literally. It’s going to be a concert for music lovers to remember, long after the curtain call! (Wycliffe is also carving out a few minutes on the show for students in GRU’s music department to share a brief performance under the direction of Dr. Rob Foster.)
