High School basketball coverage is back at Georgia Public Broadcasting. After 6 seasons, GPB Sports will once again air the boys, girls, and adapted sports GHSA Championship games across all classifications. The coverage also includes 3-point contests and a boys slam dunk competition. All games will take place March 8-11 at the Macon Centreplex in Macon, GA.

Matt Stewart will be the play-by-play announcer for the boys games. Stewart is the voice of Football Fridays in Georgia and a longtime college basketball announcer. He believes Georgia has some of the best high school basketball talent in the country.

“I’m really excited about Georgia high school basketball being on the same level as football. The talent in Georgia is phenomenal, and I look forward to giving it the exposure and stage that it deserves. Just look at the 2020 NBA Draft where 3 of the top 11 picks played high school basketball in the state, including the No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards. Then in 2022 the No. 3 pick was Jabari Smith who played at Sandy Creek. We could see that again in 2023,” said Stewart.

Tabitha Turner will be calling the girls championship games. Turner is a former Georgia Tech basketball player and a broadcaster for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream. She’s also looking forward to putting the girls talent on display for viewers.

“I’m excited to be a part of showcasing the dynamic talent the state of Georgia has to offer. The game has grown tremendously, and this is where the next elite athletes are being groomed. I’m ready for an eventful week full of girls basketball as we crown our next state champions,” said Turner.

To get you ready for tip off, here’s a few teams to keep your eyes on for the boys. Wheeler is the number 1 ranked team in class 7A and has only lost to out-of-state opponents, most recently falling to perennial power, Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas. The Wildcats are led by 5-star senior Isaiah Collier who’s the consensus No. 1 point guard not only in the state but in the nation. He has signed to play for USC next season. Number 2 Norcross is the defending 7A champion and has a 16-2 record. Alexander is the No. 1 team in 6A and only has one loss to 7A number 3 Buford. Eagle’s Landing sits atop the 5A rankings and is the only remaining unbeaten boys team in the state, boasting a perfect 19-0 record.

There are 3 undefeated teams remaining for the girls. Hebron Christian is 16-0 and ranked number 1 in 3A, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe is 17-0 and ranked No. 5 in 3A, and Clinch County is 13-0 and ranked No. 2 in 1A Div. II. Brookwood, the number 1 team in the highest classification, will be a fun one to watch. The Broncos are 17-1 and ranked19th nationally by Max Preps. Westminster is also ranked, landing at No. 2 in 4A this week. The Wildcats are led by Georgia's top talent, Courtney Ogden. The 5-star senior wing is ranked 10th on the espnW national prospect list for the 2023 class. She will be taking her talents to Stanford this fall. Honorable mention goes to the River Ridge Knights. They solidified their number 1 ranking in Class 6A with a 53-51 victory against then-No. 3 Buford of Class 7A, handing the Wolves their first loss of the season.

You can watch all the games on the GPB Knowledge Channel (check your local listings in your area) and streaming live on GPB.org/sports, the GPB Sports App, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
