There were rumblings throughout the GPB Sports rankings again this week, with several highly ranked schools losing for the first time. That creates questions about how far to elevate the winners and how far to drop the losers.

The key question this week is in Class 2A, where Thomasville defeated Fitzgerald 15-8. Fitzgerald had been No. 1 or No. 2 all season and Thomasville entered the game ranked No. 3.

"We've seen it before with Warner Robins' loss to Ware County and with Brooks County's loss to Irwin County," GPB's Jon Nelson said. "For me it's only a swap, since the loser is one spot behind the winner in the final outcome.

"Thomasville beats Fitzgerald for the Region 1-2A title, so the question really isn't a question for me. Thomasville is ahead of Fitzgerald by only one spot this week since I think they're still two of the top teams in their classification."

When the votes were tallied this week, Thomasville moved to No. 2 and Fitzgerald dropped to No. 4.

The other big shakeups took place in Class 4A, where Baldwin defeated No. 6 Spalding 27-14, and in Class 3A, where No. 9 Monroe Area defeated No. 2 Oconee County 17-14. The voters moved Baldwin into the rankings for the first time at No. 8 and dropped Spalding to No. 9 in 4A, and elevated Monroe Area to No. 4 and dropped Oconee County to No. 5 in 3A.

There were no changes at the No. 1 spots in any of the classifications.

Others entering the poll for the first time were: Pebblebrook at No. 9 in Class 7A; Swainsboro at No. 9 in Class 2A; and First Presbyterian at No. 9 in Class A Private.

"I dropped Grayson out of the 7A poll and put Pebblebrook in there after their big win over Newnan," GPB's Sam Crenshaw said. Click here to read Sam Crenshaw's previous blog post about Pebblebrook.
