There was a flurry of new investments announced in August by Governor Deal’s office, highlighted by home furnishings manufacturer Safavieh announcing it would created 200 new jobs and invest $60 million into a Chatham County distribution facility.

Safavieh will build a 1.1 million-square-foot facility at the Savannah River International Trade Park. New jobs will include positions in operations.

The new facility should be up and running by the end of 2018, where it will triple the company’s current warehouse capacity.

Savannah has used its massive port to become one of the biggest players in logistics, which makes it likely more distribution facilities will eye The Hostess City of the South.

Meanwhile Polk County had a nice August, with two new jobs announcements totaling more than $44 million in investment with an additional 260 new jobs.

First up we have military aircraft supplier Meggitt Polymers & Composites, a manufacturer of environmental components, creating an additional 211 jobs and investing $30 million to expand its facility in Rockmart.

The 211 jobs would be a 20 percent increase over Meggitt’s current 1,000-person operation. The newly created jobs include positions in production, supervision, management, engineering, inspection and technical roles.

There isn’t a clear timeline of when the positions will become available, but stay tuned to Georgia@Work as when updates happen, we’ll let you know.

Staying in Polk County and heading due west Cedartown—home of Georgia running back Nick Chubb—is getting increased investment from furniture manufacturer The HON Company.

The current Cedartown resident will expand operations pouring in an additional $14.5 million and create and additional 60 positions. The best part about this expansion is the positions created will be in the manufacturing space. The 60 new hires will join the more than 680 current associates in Cedartown.
