For all you Star Wars fans out there (like me!), May the Fourth is an important day. It’s a day to celebrate all things Star Wars. It can also be a great way to incorporate and discuss key literary elements in the classroom, such as archetypes. In a lesson plan created by high school teacher Dan Zehr, this site describes how certain key characters in Star Wars serve as mentors. It’s a good starting point for a class discussion on the role of mentors in literature and film. It can also lead into a deeper reflection on students’ personal life mentors and why they are important.
