Senior Holden Geriner threw for a personal-best 397 yards and four touchdowns and helped No. 3 Benedictine to a 35-28 win over No. 2 Carver Columbus for the Class 4A championship on Friday.

Geriner completed 24 of 30 passes and led the Cadets to their third state title. He had touchdown throws of 61, 58, 80 and 23 yards. He finished the season with 3,377 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Benedictine (13-2) also got 10 receptions from Za’Quan Bryan for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Thomas caught seven passes for 169 yards and one touchdown and rushed 17 times for 58 yards and one touchdown

Carver (13-2) was led by Jaiden Credle, who ran 20 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Devin Riles, who completed 17 of 26 for 232 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 28 yards.

Carver drew to within one score when Credle scored on a 53-yard run with 5:14 remaining. But Benedictine was able to pick up two key first downs and run out the clock, preventing Carver from getting  final shot.
