The GPB Sports team and Football Fridays in Georgia rolls into Athens, Georgia, this week for a huge rivalry game between the Clarke Central Gladiators and the Jaguars of Cedar Shoals. Clarke Central comes into this one with a 2-2 record under new coach Dave Perno while the Jaguars are 3-1 under new coach Leroy Ryals who a few years back was the head coach at Clarke Central. Yes, this one has a lot of very interesting story lines. Jackie Brittain will profile both coaches and talk about how this rivalry game impacts the residents of the sixth largest city in Georgia. Jon Nelson will go into his way back machine for an interview done decades ago with legendary Clarke Central coach Billy Henderson. Chuck Smith, who played for Coach Henderson and won a state championship in 1985 for the Gladiators will sit down with the coach in his home for a very up close and personal interview with a man who won 3 state titles for the Gladiators in 1977-79- and 1985 and who won 285 games in his coaching career. You will want to see all of that in our GPB Football Fridays in Georgia Post Game Show. Matt Stewart will be along for all the latest recruiting news and I will have another report on the Heads Up Georgia Program as GPB teams up with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to help keep students and all divers more aware about the dangers of distracted driving. It is also a Blue Out at Waters-Wilkins Stadium on Friday as September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and many of the players will be wearing blue socks and have blue ribbons on their helmets while the officials will use blue flags and fans are encouraged to wear blue to the game. Our Cignature Moment segment with Doctor Robert Hamilton of Cigna will also deal with how to recognize the warning signs for prostate cancer and what treatments are available for this highly curable disease. So join Jackie and Jon, and Matt and Chuck and I for a great night of Friday Night Lights from Athens, Georgia. The All Access Pass Pregame show kicks off at 7pm. It will surely be a classic moment in this Classic City Classic as Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals meet for the 50th time on the gridiron. I can’t wait.
