On Thursday, October 1, Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, and West Georgia RESA will host the Discovery Education STEM Academy, a no-cost professional development opportunity for over 100 area educators to explore STEM as it relates to their location. During this immersive professional development experience, participating educators will explore best practices for implementing innovative STEM curricula that prepare students to be effective problem solvers and lifelong learners. During a series of interactive sessions, attendees will experience instructional strategies that promote STEM skill building, experience new digital tools and resources supporting STEM instruction, and prepare action steps for implementing STEM practices.  In addition, participants will examine data about future STEM opportunities in Georgia so they can build their own STEM strategy. The Academy will be led by a Discovery Education expert with extensive experience partnering with districts and schools to transform teaching and learning and create a culture of STEM.

STEM: Connecting the Dots

Discovery Education and STEM education are a perfect fit when it comes to transforming your classroom or school for the 21st century. STEM is not about just teaching about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; it is a culture that needs to be cultivated to help create a problem solving, creative, critical thinking workforce for tomorrow. During this Academy, Discovery Education will expand your thinking to embrace STEM beyond those subjects, and beyond your classrooms walls.

This professional development provides:

  • An intense focus on instructional practices to successfully apply a STEM philosophy in their classroom, school, or district
  • A dive into what these practices look like and how to build them into the curriculum to maximize student engagement and achievement
  • STEM instructional strategies connected to the demands of the NGSS and CCSS
  • Action steps for immediate application of their learning.

Through a partnership between Discovery Education and Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), all educators across Georgia have access to dynamic digital content from the award-winning Discovery Education Streaming service, a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K-12 curricular areas.
