The Colquitt County Packers are the reigning 6A state champions in Georgia, and they are on the march towards another state title.  Right now, coach Rush Propst’s squad is proudly perched on top of the polls- sitting pretty with a picture perfect 5-0 record.  None of the five games have been very close with Colquitt County piling up 240 points while allowing just 64. If you average that out, the Packers are posting 48 points per game while giving up just 12.8.

At the controls of the Packer’s offense is senior quarterback Chase Parrish.  Chase has led the Packers while they have piled up 20 consecutive wins and I had a long talk with the talented QB this week.

I asked him how much winning the state championship last year has boosted his and the teams confidence:

“Absolutely, it has boosted our confidence.  This year we are 5-0 and expectations are high. The entire town expects us to do it again, and that adds some pressure, but it also boosts up our confidence level.”

Last week Chase played less than a half against Pelham High School and posted some Tom Brady like numbers, 18-22 for 256 yards and 6 touchdowns………not bad for less than a  half of work.

GPB Sports is heading to Moultrie,GA.  on October 16th to broadcast the Colquitt County-Valdosta game.

We talked about that rivalry between the Packers and the Wildcats:

“The two schools are just 45 minutes apart. Valdosta has a great winning program. Colquitt is on top of our game right now. It is an old rivalry and there is a lot of pride at stake”

The Colquitt County-Valdosta rivalry is a great one.  It dates back to September 29, 1978.  That was the first year the Packers played football, and Valdosta won that game 49-0. Valdosta leads the series 28 wins to 15. But Colquitt County has won the last two matchups and I asked Chase about how special it will be for this game to be televised around the state of Georgia on GPB Sports.

“It’s fantastic. It means we need to play our best game while the whole state is watching!”

He loves playing for coach Rush Propst who he says, “…always keeps you on your toes. He is a great coach with great knowledge, great in game time decision making, and a fiery leader. He is a bit old school, but keeps up with the latest innovations in the game.”

Finally, I had to circle back to last year when the Packers won their second state title and the first in twenty years.  The team left the Georgia Dome and bussed home to Moultrie where it seemed the entire town was there to greet the team around four in the morning when the busses paraded around the town square.

“It was so special to see how the entire town reacted and to see the joy on all the faces. It was just a great vibe and everyone was really into it. Our fans travelled so well all season long and it was so great to wrap it up with that parade around the square early that Sunday morning”

That was a great memory for Chase and all the Packer nation.  And one they all want to share again.
