A U.S. Army base originally named after a Confederate general, then renamed Fort Liberty, will revert to the name Fort Bragg. Its new namesake is WWII hero Roland Bragg — unbeknownst to his family.

The start of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is a few weeks away. That's where the world's finest athletes will gather to compete. And among those athletes proudly representing the United States is Staff Sgt. William Hinton, based at Georgia’s Fort Moore and a member of the elite Army Marksmanship Unit. Hinton beat 121 other trap shooters to earn his ticket to Paris.

Century-old sacrifices now remembered in downtown Macon memorial

The names of a chain gang guard with a horse-drawn wagon, a fire inspector and a Prohibition-era police detective now are etched in three black granite monuments in Macon’s Public Safety Memorial Park. Each year around May 15 and Sept. 11, the community gathers at the memorial on Mulberry Street to remember local lives lost in service.

3 Georgia soldiers killed in Jordan were based at Fort Moore, Pentagon announces

The soldiers were assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade, at Fort Moore, south of Columbus near the Alabama line and had been near the Syrian border as part of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Louisiana's Fort Polk became Fort Johnson, the latest Army base to replace its Confederate name. It now honors a soldier who earned a Medal of Honor a century after the night that made him a hero.

Until now, the Army has offered a maximum bonus of $40,000. The head of Recruiting Command said the pandemic has made attracting new talent much more of a challenge.
