Midway fire station could lose certification

The City of Midway could lose its only firehouse after the interim chief and most of the volunteer firefighting force resigned Monday evening. A Georgia fire compliance officer has sent the city a letter giving it 30 days from that point to get the department back into compliance.

Liberty County Commission takes control of funds from speed-camera violations

After months of controversy over how funds from violations in camera-monitored speed zones are spent, the Liberty County Board of Commissioners voted 4-2 to take control of the money from Liberty County Sheriff Will Bowman, who must now request money for projects.

Who’s got a dog in Liberty’s sheriff election fight?

A retired Liberty County Sheriff’s Office drug dog got dropped off at the local animal shelter last week. Liberty County commission takes over sheriff’s school zone speeding fines account

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners has taken control of a bank account that Sheriff Will Bowman established in 2022 to hold school zone camera ticket revenues. As of April 14, according to county records, the account has brought in $1,100,808.80 since its inception.

Liberty County honors Georgia hero Susie King Taylor, 162 years after her escape from slavery

April 13 marks the anniversary of Susie King Taylor's escape from slavery in 1862 during the Civil War. Liberty County is marking the event Saturday with a celebration in Taylor's Coastal Georgia hometown of Midway.
