A Georgia state agency has received more than 177,000 applications for housing subsidies after opening applications for the first time since 2021. But the Georgia Department of Community Affairs says it will place only 13,000 of those on a waiting list once it determines which applications are eligible and complete.

The Atlanta City Council is considering a resolution that would increase the number of residential developments accepting public housing vouchers.

Georgia’s Department of Community Affairs has stopped taking new applications for its rental assistance program, surprising tenants and landlords across the state who were expecting help.

 

The U.S. Treasury will soon determine if Georgia’s emergency rental program is making enough progress to prevent losing $120 million to other cities, counties, and states whose applications and payments have been processed more effectively.
