Adriana Smith is a patient at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta. Emergency complications early in her pregnancy led to brain death, but she remains on life support as the pregnancy continues, according to her family. Her case has become a symbol of the medical and ethical issues stemming from a Georgia law that bans most abortions and confers fetal "personhood" rights.<br>
