Charges dropped against detainee beaten inside Georgia jail

Prosecutors have dropped charges of assault, obstruction and other counts against a Georgia jail detainee after security camera video showed him being beaten by deputies. The decision to dismiss the charges against Jarrett Hobbs came several months after three Camden County sheriff's deputies were arrested on battery charges in the Sept. 3 jail beating.

Largest federal indictment in history of Georgia's Southern District charges 76 with drug conspiracy

Federal prosecutors in Southeast Georgia announced Wednesday a massive drug trafficking indictment, charging 76 people — including a state prison guard — with operating a drug distribution network of opioids and other controlled substances in and around Brunswick's Glynn County.

Atlanta group could take over Augusta University hospitals

Judge to arraign ex-DA charged in Arbery killing's aftermath

A former Georgia prosecutor charged with hindering the police investigation into the 2020 killing of Ahmaud Arbery is scheduled to make her first court appearance in the case next month. A superior court judge on Tuesday ordered a Dec. 29 arraignment for former District Attorney Jackie Johnson.

The mother of a toddler reported missing Oct. 5 in Georgia has been arrested in connection with the child's disappearance and presumed death. The Chatham County Police Department on Monday said officers had arrested 22-year-old Leilani Simon on several charges, including malice murder and making false statements involving her son.

Authorities are evacuating neighborhoods near a chemical plant where a large fire is burning in coastal Georgia. Glynn County commission Chairman Wayne Neal estimated roughly 100 households had been ordered to evacuate, mostly because of potential smoke hazards.
