Abundant sunshine across Georgia today will give way to a deep moisture surge from Friday evening into Friday night and through Saturday, bringing up to 4 inches of rain as a band of storms moves across the state.

According to the National Weather Service:

Widespread rainfall will blanket the Atlanta metro and surrounding areas, a region which already received 2 to 3 or more inches of rainfall Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, causing flooding issues. The NWS is issuing an Excessive Rainfall Outlook to a Moderate Risk within a region centered across the Atlanta metro.

Given the saturated state of our local soils, this rainfall may lead to additional flooding concerns. A Flood Watch has been issued for portions of northern and central Georgia from Friday evening through Saturday night. Severe thunderstorms will also be possible in the region Saturday. The primary potential hazards appear to be damaging winds or possible brief tornadoes.
