Preserving Atlanta's Historical Sites In The Black Community

GPB's Leah Fleming speaks with Stephanie Meeks, CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation

As cities like Atlanta grapple with Confederate history and what to do with symbols like America’s largest Confederate memorial atop Stone Mountain, there’s a push to recognize places of cultural significance for African-Americans.

The National Trust, in partnership with The Ford Foundation, The JPB Foundation and Open Society Foundation, announced the creation of the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund.  

The fund will establish a new grant, worth up to $25 million, for the protection and restoration of places of significant African-American heritage that are in peril

We speak with Stephanie Meeks, the president and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, to discuss the fund and what sites in Atlanta might receive financial assistance.
