More local education scandals came to light last week, this time at the collegiate level. Kennesaw State University president Daniel Papp resigned suddenly after reports revealed he accepted over $500,000 in retirement benefits while he was still employed. A second audit shows that a conflict of interest in the food services department may have also cost the university hundreds of thousands of dollars more.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Janel Davis joins us to talk more about the problems at Kennesaw State University.

Statement from Daniel Papp, following his resignation:

  • “Retiring now is best for the University — it’s time for us all to move on to the next chapter,” said Dr. Papp. “It is clear that a combination of misunderstandings, miscommunications and mistakes occurred between the KSU Foundation, the University System Office and myself. Internal controls were not sufficient to identify and prevent these mistakes, and it is my understanding that measures will soon be put into place by both the University System and the KSU Foundation to assure that situations like this do not happen again.”
