Chances are if you’ve answered the phones for one of our radio or television fund drives or attended a screening, you’ve met volunteer power house May Gourrier French. She’s hard to miss. She has dramatic red hair, wears glasses and greets people with a genteel demeanor.

May is a volunteer regular who serves on our leadership team and coordinates the volunteer efforts of SunTrust where she still works five days a week at 72 years young!

Volunteering was part of May’s upbringing. Born and raised in New Orleans, her parents taught her eight brothers and sisters to give back with action. They listened. For more than two decades, they have volunteered for the Red Cross, especially during Hurricane Katrina disaster relief.

May has also donated her time to the Atlanta Food Bank and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk.

Because of her immense dedication and her heart for helping, our partner Cabot Creamery has named May as one of their Celebrity volunteers. She and 60 others will set sail on an Alaskan Cruise sponsored by the company where they’ll be honored for what they do for their communities.
