The two highest-ranked teams in the state’s highest classification will be featured this week on GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia.

The No. 1 Carrollton Trojans (13-0) travel to play the No. 2 Buford Wolves (12-1) on Friday at Tom Riden Stadium in Buford. Kickoff on GPB-TV will be 7:30 p.m.

Both teams won their respective region championship games and, as No. 1 seeds, could have hosted the game. But a universal coin flip tiebreaker was conducted by the GHSA and determined the teams from the bottom half of the bracket would get the home game. Thus, Buford is hosting.

Carrollton defeated Hillgrove 46-6 in the quarterfinals, although all-state quarterback Julian Lewis injured his throwing hand and left the game with an injury in the first quarter. He did not return to the game but was back on the sidelines in the second half wearing a cast.

Buford scored the first four times it had the ball in the second half to blow open a close game and beat North Gwinnet 43-7. The Wolves are back in the semifinals for the first time since 2021, the last year they won a state championship.

Buford and Carrollton have played four times – all in the playoffs -- with the Wolves winning each game. Their last meeting came in the 2021 semifinals with Buford winning 21-6.
