Quarterback Elliott Colson threw four touchdown passes and Cedar Grove defeated Savannah Christian 49-28 on Wednesday to win the Class 3A title, its fifth state championship since 2016.

Colson, one of the state’s top junior prospects, completed 11 of 16 passes for 259, including a 64-yarder to Malachi Miller, a 31-yarder to Andrew Leslie, an 18-yarder to Devin Carter and 45-yard to Jordan Christie.

Cedar Grove (10-5) also rushed for 259 yards, with Boden Walker rushing 18 time for 129 yards and two touchdowns and Anthony Booker rushing nine times for 93 yards and one touchdown. Keith Bass led the defense with 12 tackles and Chase Kerns had 11 tackles, three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Tony Forney and D’Marcus Clements each had an interception.

Savannah Christian (12-3) was led by Zo Smalls, who carried 23 times for 86 yards and three touchdowns, runs of 2, 1 and 1 yards. Kenry Wall rushed 12 times for 74 yards. Quarterback Blaise Thomas completed 8 of 15 passes for 79 yards, four of them to David Bucey, who led the team with nine tackles.

After starting the season 2-5 thanks to one of the most difficult schedules in the state, Cedar Grove swept through the region schedule without a blemish and finished on a eight-game winning streak.
