Two of the state’s most iconic football programs will be featured this week on GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia when Valdosta plays at Carrollton in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. from Grisham Stadium.

Valdosta is the winningest program in the history of Georgia high school football. The Wildcats have won 952 games and 24 state championships. Carrollton is No. 7 with 734 victories and seven state championships.

Valdosta is 8-3 and finished second in Region 1 under third-year coach Shelton Felton. The Wildcats rolled to a 41-16 win over Archer in the first round.

Carrollton is 10-1 and won the Region 2 title under third-year coach Joey King, who earlier this season earned his 100th career victory. The Trojans defeated Harrison 54-14 in the first round of the playoffs and have won 10 straight since its season-opening loss to reigning Class 6A champion Hughes.

This is only the second meeting between the two schools. Valdosta won 36-15 in 2020, but had to forfeit the victory, one of eight taken away by GHSA sanctions.
