Two of the best teams in Class 5A will meet for control of Region 7 when No. 6 Hiram travels to No. 1 Cartersville in this week’s edition of GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia.

Cartersville (7-0, 2-0) avoided an upset on Friday by beating Cass 21-14 in overtime. Cartersville appeared doomed when Cass drove to the 10 in the waning seconds of regulation, but the Colonels missed a game-winning field goal. A’darrian Taylor-Wilson caught the go-ahead touchdown for the Canes in overtime and sealed the victory in overtime when Reed Ezell came up with an interception.

Hiram (6-1, 1-1) is coming off its first setback of the season, a 56-35 loss against No. 8 Calhoun. The Hornets are one of the highest-scoring teams in the state and have not scored fewer than 35 points in any game. Hiram features four of the top-100 prospects in Georgia.

Cartersville leads the series 3-0 and won last year’s game 44-26.
