Three schools won their first state football championship, while five others added to their legacies over the weekend, and finished the season ranked No. 1 in their respective classification.

The champions were Mill Creek in Class 7A, Hughes in 6A, Ware County in 5A, Benedictine in 4A, Sandy Creek in 3A, Thomson in 2A, Price Avenue Christian in Class A Division I and Bowdon in Class A Division II. First-time winners were Mill Creek, Hughes and Ware County.

It was the sixth title for Thomson, the fourth for Benedictine, the fourth for Sandy Creek, the third for Prince Avenue Christian and the third for Bowdon.

There were xx teams who finished the season undefeated: Hughes (15-0), Ware County (14-0) and Prince Avenue Christian (15-0).

Mill Creek set a record for the most points scored in a championship game in its 70-35 win over Carrollton. That game also set a record for the most combined points scored in a GHSA championship.
