Sydney Bowles had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead Woodward Academy to a 72-44 win over Forest Park on Thursday at the Macon Coliseum, giving the War Eagles back-to-back Class 5A girls championships.

Bowles, who earlier this week was named Gatorade’s Georgia Player of the Year, helped spark a 27-9 second quarter that broke open a close game and put Woodward Academy ahead to stay. Bowles has signed to play at the University of Georgia.

The War Eagles also got 17 points from Sara Lewis and 11 points from MacKenzie Moring.

Forest Park (22-7) was led by Yasmine Allen with 19 points, three of them 3-pointers. Jayda Brown scored eight, but fouled out in the second quarter after playing 14 minutes.

The two teams are familiar foes, both belonging to Region 3. Woodward swept all four meetings this year, twice in the regular season, once in the region final and lastly in the state championship game.
