Denorris Goodwin rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 2 Fitzgerald to a dominant 21-7 win over no. Thomasville to win the Class 2A championship on Friday.

It was the first state championship for Fitzgerald since 1948.

The Purple Hurricane dominated both sides of the ball, running for 295 yards and controlling the clock. Fitzgerald kept the ball for 33:23 minutes, compared to only 14:37 for Thomasville. The Bulldogs were limited to 161 yards of total offense.

Fitzgerald (13-2) led 21-0 at halftime on a 2-yard run from E.J. Lightsey and a pair of runs from Goodwin, 6 and 12 yards.  Lightsey ran 11 times for 52 yards – he also led the team with eight total tackles -- and Donald Wilcox rushed for 44 yards.

Thomasville (13-2) got 110 yards passing from Shannen White, who completed 9 of 17 for one touchdown. But he was sacked twice and threw two interceptions. The touchdown was a 61-yard pass to Cole Shaw midway in the fourth quarter. Ty Anderson led Thomasville with 17 tackles and Evan Wynn had 15.

Thomasville defeated Fitzgerald 15-8 during the regular season.
