GPB Sports is looking for Georgia high school football players who are having a great season and career but who may need a little help getting noticed by recruiters. Here are our nominees this week.

 

Brooks Pangle, Greenbrier, QB, SR

Pangle is a 6”2 180 LBS Quarterback for Greenbrier High School. He has shown his athleticism by setting various records at his school including: single season record for passing yards with 2,858, single season record for TD passes at 462 and single game passing yardage record at 462. During Pangle’s 2020 season, some of his recognitions included: GHSA region 8-5A Offensive Player of the Year, All-State 5A QB by the Georgia Coaches Association, and ranked #3 at the Atlanta Elite 11 competition out of the 57 QB's invited. Off the field he has maintained a 3.95 GPA and has a SAT score of 1270.

Seth Copeland, Georgia Christian, ATH, JR

Copeland is a 5’5” 140 LBS do-it-all Athlete for Georgia Christian School. He plays quarterback, tailback, wideout and linebacker for the Generals. The third of three boys, he is continuing the Copeland dominance and will be a vital part of the team for the next two seasons! Off the field, he maintains a 4.0 GPA and is hoping to take his talents to the next level!

Noah DeMerritt, Camden County, G/T , SR

DeMeritt is a solid 6’6, 310 LBS Offensive Guard for Camden County. He has been playing as an OG since 7th grade, and has started for the Wildcats since his freshman year. DeMeritt has shown his versatility by taking on new positions, during his junior year he took over as a center, and this season he is playing as a tackle. Over the years he has been honored for his skills:   freshman year he attended the GA Elite classic, sophomore year he was named second team All-Region and junior year he was named first team All-Region. This past Spring, DeMeritt was invited to the Rivals camp in Marietta and was rated as a 3 star player.  This year he was named pre-season All-State and one of Georgia’s top Offensive Lineman. DeMeritt puts in hard work off the field as well, he currently squats 525, benches 335 and cleans 315. He says he would love to continue playing the game he loves at the next level and is actively seeking his next team. DeMeritt currently has offers from Nebraska, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech.

Jacob Gallegos, Georgia Christian, RB/ LB, JR

Gallegos is a 5’11” 170 LBS Running Back and Linebacker for Greater Christian School. He led the team in rushing yards and tackles in his first game with the team, and is quickly proving he has what it takes to play at the next level. The team is happy to have him for two more years!

Hunter Kirkley, Westfield, QB, JR

Kirkley is a 5'11" 170 LBS Quarterback for Westfield High School. He has quarterback his entire football career, starting for both my middle and high school football teams. Kirkley has worked with several big name QB coaches including Tony Ballard of Atlanta,Ga. During his Sophomore year, he had 817 yards on 111 attempts. He runs an impressive 4.6 40 yard dash. Kirkley is an all-around talented athlete, and plays both baseball and basketball. Off the field, he does his best to excel in the classroom and has maintained a 4.0 GPA. Kirkley’s favorite college football team is the Florida Gators and it’s his dream to play in the swamp.

Garrett McQuaig, Georgia Christian, LB/ FB, JR

McQuaig is a 5”11" 195 LBS Linebacker and Fullback for Georgia Christian School. He is a student-athlete who transferred from Lowndes just prior to the first game of the season. McQuaig quickly showed his leadership by teaching some of the younger players and even older players how to carry themselves. He is a very vocal leader and leads in a positive way, and they are  excited to have him the next two years!

Ian Hackney, Riverdale, LB, SR

Hackney is a 6'1", 205 LBS Linebacker at Riverdale High School. He is one of three returning starters at linebacker for the Raiders and the son of Head Coach Rodney Hackney. He has offers from Kentucky State and he is getting looks from Kennesaw State and Austin Peay.  Hackney had a monster game in Riverdale's 42-15 season-opening win over Mays in the Great Atlanta Bash with 17 total tackles, 10 solo with an INT, fumble recovery and PBU.  Hackney totaled 144 total tackles last season, with 88 solo and 3 QB sacks earning All-Region honors and is a big reason why the Raiders should be the favorites to win Region 5-4A for a second straight year after helping Riverdale reach the 2020 state quarterfinals. The Raiders have never won back-to-back region titles.
