GPB Sports is heading to Cartersville, Georgia this week, as the top ranked, undefeated, and defending champion Purple Hurricanes take on region rival, Central Carroll. Cartersville is led by their all world quarterback, Trevor Lawrence who is the top ranked junior quarterback in the entire country and has been putting up some pretty impressive numbers to back up all the hype. He is 6-4, can read defenses, and make all the throws. He is a can’t misser and will be a lot of fun to watch. And remember, he is just a junior. He will be back next year. Jackie Brittain will also fill us in on how Trevor’s hair, has its own Twitter account. Don’t ask me, just tune in and find out. Jackie will also have the inspirational story of Garrett Geros who lost part of his leg in an automobile accident, but still suits up for the Purple Hurricanes and doesn’t let anything slow him down. Matt Stewart will have the latest on recruiting including the story of a Cartersville quarterback, (not Trevor Lawrence) who was offered a college scholarship when he was in the 7th grade. That’s quite a story. Jon Nelson will drop by for Jon’s Georgia and Backroads and Backfields and will tell us about one team in Georgia, that has not just 2 brothers son the same team, not 3 brothers on the same team, but four brothers on the same team. GPB along with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will show the dangers of distracted driving and how our teen drivers can be safer on the roads. Our Cignature Moment will delve into the growing problems of opioid misuse and what can be done to raise awareness to this problem. We will also talk with Central Carroll head coach Larry Kesler and Cartersville coach Joey King. And if you have never seen a game from Weinman Stadium it is quite an event. The students get into their cheering section hours before kickoff to cheer on their team. It is quite an enthusiastic atmosphere. So its Central Carroll who won back to back state titles in 1986 and 1987, taking on the 3 time state champion Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville. Our coverage kicks off with the GPB All Access Pass Pregame Show at 7pm, only on the great GPB.
