It’s just barely morning here in Atlanta and the world of high school and college football is suddenly alive again (sorry Super Bowl 50, today is our day).

As we get ready for a big day of National Signing Day coverage, there have already been some major announcements to come out of the state of Georgia. We’ll keep you updated on Twitter and Facebook @GPBSports, but find us later for more in-depth coverage right here on the web at: gpb.org/sports.

UPDATE: 3:09 PM

Derrick Brown, DT, Lanier High School is the number one ranked player in Georgia. He committed to Auburn University.

E.J. Price, OT for Archer has committed to the University of Southern California

UPDATE: 1:20 PM

Georgia Tech currently has 12 in-state commits and six out of state commits. Among the in-state newly declared Yellow Jackets are:

Xavier Gantt, RB, Buford High school

Chris Martin, DT, Grayson High school

Jarett Cole, S, Norcross High School

Dedrick Mills, RB, Ware County High School

UPDATE: 11:30 AM

Randrecous Davis, WR out of Mays has signed with The University of South Carolina.

Jay Blakely, LB out of Colquitt County High School has signed with the University of Tennessee.

Chase Parrish, QB of Colquitt County Packers has signed with Navy. This is a player who didn't have a whole lot of division-I interest, but clearly an exceptional quarterback. Colquitt County is signing approximately 20 players today, so coverage will continue all day long. This is the biggest signing day class for Colquitt County.

UPDATE: 10:20 am

Kirby Smart is at it again! WR Tyler Simmons out of McEachern High School was originally planning to commit to the University of Florida but as of this morning, he has changed his mind and is now committed to the University of Georgia. A great get for the Georgia Bulldogs. He is ranked as a top three wide receiver in the state according to scout.com.

And another great get for the Bulldogs… Defensive Tackle Michail Carter out of Jackson High School was originally undeclared and many expected him to sign in the SEC. He will stay in the state, playing for the Bulldogs between the hedges in Athens.
So far, the Georgia Bulldogs are off to a great start, and in some polls are currently ranked as high as #4 (per recruiting reports) in the nation in terms of the recruiting class. Stay with us…

EARLIER: 9:15 am

Let’s start with one of the biggest signings of the day. So far Kirby Smart is off to a good start in Athens, getting some big names for the Georgia Bulldogs. Landing Jacob Eason was already a win on paper and now he’s landed Mecole Hardman (athlete) out of Elbert County. He is rated among many experts as the number on athlete in the country (according to MaxPreps). He’s a versatile athlete who is listed as a quarterback and cornerback in high school. And he didn’t do it quietly. It was reported by USA Today, that there was a display of cakes representing his school choices, but instead of “taking the cake” he ran through a banner wearing a Georgia uniform and gloves. Creative.

In other news, congrats to our friends above us in Tennessee on grabbing Nigel Warrior, a safety out of Peachtree Ridge. He’s officially a Vol. He’s a four-star recruit and chose Tennessee over other big SEC schools like Georgia, LSU and Alabama.
This is only the beginning; DT Derrick Brown of Lanier High School is one of the top high school athletes in the country and is expected to declare later in the afternoon, approximately around 3:00 PM. His options are limitless… basically every school in the SEC, and then some, is at his fingertips.

Get ready, it’s Christmas here in February.
