Like Arnold Schwarzenegger in those famous Terminator movies, Football Fridays in Georgia is BACK on GPB Sports starting in August. GPB Sports will kick off our season August 21 at Roswell High School where the Hornets will host one of the top teams in the state against a team with five state championship trophies in their trophy case: Lowndes High School. The Vikings programs knows what success tastes like, as state champs in 1980, 1999, 2004, '05 and 2007. Since we're starting a week earlier than last, we'll pick the schedule up on September 11 when the Walton Raiders travel to Etowah for a battle with the Eagles. Etowah High School is the only school in the state with an on-campus memorial to the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and the artwork is something we'll make sure to while we're there. And who knows....we might even see a flyover as part of the pregame ceremonies. We then move to Dekalb County and Hallford Stadium on September 18 as the Creekside Seminoles, state 5A champs two years ago, take on the always-talented Stephenson. The Jaguars will again be led by Coach Ron Gartrell who does such a fantastic job every single year sending his players on to play on college grid irons all over the country. On September 25, another huge Dekalb County rivalry will make the GPB airwaves as the Tucker Tigers, owners of two state titles in 2008 and 2011, take on a very talented MLK Lions team. On October 2, we move to Gwinnett County for a rematch of the 2012 6A state championship game, as the Bulldogs of North Gwinnett travel to Norcross to take on the two-time state champion Blue Devils of coach Keith Maloof. The Blue Devils completed two December trips to the Georgia Dome successfully with back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. On October 9, it's all about Cobb County as the Warriors of North Cobb take on Coach Kyle Hockman and the McEachern Indians. Under center will again be the coach’s son and team quarterback Bailey Hockman, who though only a junior, has already committed to play his college football between the hedges for Mark Richt at the University of Georgia. After a Friday in Cobb County, South Georgia football steals the show. On October 16, over sixty members of the GPB Sports team will hit the road to Moultrie, Georgia. GPB Sports will broadcast one of the all-time great rivalries in this state, as the Valdosta Wildcats take on the defending Class 6A state champion Colquitt County Packers and Coach Rush Propst. Both these teams have a ton of talent returning and should be one of those games that fans will talk about for a long time. This matchup could likely even wind up determining which team wins that always tough Region 1-6A title. Valdosta has won a record 891 games, most in the nation, along with twenty-three Georgia state championships and six mythical national titles. Colquitt has won two state titles, including the most recent one in a well-played win over Archer in the Georgia Dome last December. At this point, we are going to do something a little different. Over the last three years, GPB Sports locked in the first ten games of the season before the season started. This year, we're trying something new and will go with a FLEX schedule for the final three regular season games. Our hope is that by waiting to see how the season develops, we will be able to bring you the best final three games of the season, with games that will have big impacts on region championships and postseason slotting. And of course, starting November 13 and going all the way to the Georgia Dome on December 11-12, GPB Sports will have you covered with every punt, pass, tackle, and touchdown of the playoffs. Football practices will start in late July, and August 1 is the first day for practice in pads. We'll begin our season August 21, the earliest we have ever kicked off a season..and we cannot wait. We're ready for some great Georgia high School football, LIVE on GPB Sports!
