National Signing Day Coverage From GPB Sports

What A Great Day!!!

There will be athletes that sign letters of intent in the days to come, an offensive lineman here, a linebacker there, but for the vast majority the autograph has been attached to the document that hopefully will lead to a college degree and some fun and glory on the grid iron as well.

Georgia was more than well represented on signing day. The University of Georgia had a top ten class. Georgia Tech had one of their best recruiting classes in school history. Kennesaw State made a big splash with the Owls initial recruiting class and Georgia State, Mercer, Georgia Southern, Clark Atlanta, Valdosta State and all the other schools have restocked their talent supply for another year.

Big splashes were made by Lorenzo Carter who chose Georgia on ESPN, and moments later his Norcross teammate Myles Autry who will play on the flats for Georgia Tech. Some blue chippers like Deshaun Watson of Gainesville High School went across state lines to play at places like Clemson. And for the sixth year in a row, Dekalb County sent at least 100 players to the next level with college scholarship offers in hand.

It’s a big day for the schools, the players, the coaches and the parents. I tip my cap to all the teachers and parents who helped these signees make the grades that will allow them to play college sports.

You have done a magnificent job.

And I will also have a lot of fun keeping my eyes on the players that were on GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia and see how they will do at the next level. It has been a great experience to watch these kids play in high school and then go on to play on Saturdays. I am looking forward to watching this class move on up!
