Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Virgil Watkins made his point about inequities in internet access without saying a word Tuesday night. 

On Halloween, volunteers are invited to the “Invasion of the Plant Snatchers,” a workday at the park to teach people how to identify and remove invasive plants. It is the first public service project of the Arbor Conservation Board.

Elections observers will no longer be able to talk to Macon-Bibb County voters in line at the polls under new restrictions passed Thursday evening by the board of elections.

The board’s action does not apply to official poll watchers, which are governed by Georgia law, but refers to groups or individuals who claim they have the right to observe and assist voters.

More than a half-million dollars is headed to the coffers of the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections to help run this year’s elections.

The nonprofit Center for Tech and Civic Life has awarded more than $557,000 to assist with planning and operating safe and secure elections.

When Historic Macon Foundation’s Ethiel Garlington moved to town in 2014, a late 19th Century drugstore caught his eye in Beall’s Hill.

“This is the first building I’ve seen and fell in love with,” Garlington told the Land Bank Authority this summer.

The two-story, brick business with its angled entrance also was love at first site for chef Robert Fisher who was searching for a home for his catering business and new restaurant.
