The old and rusted Roxy Theatre has been hiding in plain sight for decades near downtown Macon, but those who know its past are building a new future around it.

As the state prepares for two U.S. Senate runoff elections, most voters must take additional steps to obtain an absentee ballot this time.

Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections chairman Mike Kaplan wants voters to understand that absentee ballots are not being sent automatically.

Of the 360 dogs rescued from Georgia this year, about 200 of those recently adopted have traveled all the way by special transport vans from the southwest Georgia town of Albany. Earlier this month, 28 dogs and 19 puppies from Dougherty County arrived up north.

Tuesday, Georgia’s DCA announced the Macon Housing Authority’s planned $20 million Central City Apartments workforce housing development on lower Walnut Street will qualify for the tax credits necessary to secure a deal.

More than 22 years ago, Chris Sheridan and others started dreaming of an Ocmulgee Heritage trail lining the Macon banks of the river.

“That’s the way improvements go in the urban core go,” he said. “It’s a long game and we need to think 20 and 30 years down the road.”

More than two decades later and by the end of this year, an important new link will begin connecting the trail network across the waterway.
