A study is underway to determine whether a 50-mile stretch of the Ocmulgee River and adjacent land should be added to the National Park Service.

Public Comment Sought On Ocmulgee Mounds National Park Corridor

When Congress agreed to enlarge the boundaries of the former Ocmulgee National Monument the national park designation was only part of the plan.

For the next few years, the National Park Service will study whether to include about 50 river miles in Bibb, Twiggs, Houston, Bleckley and Pulaski counties.

Macon Stars In Mike Rowe's New TV Series

Beginning in January, television host Mike Rowe will use Macon as a backdrop for multiple scenes as he sets out to prove every single thing is connected.

Storied Macon Welcome Sign Resurrected For Second Street Corridor

For more than a decade, Macon’s infamous welcome sign sat dismantled at Central City Park.

The $50,000 worth of chiseled pink granite was designed in 1996 to greet thousands of travelers buzzing through town on Interstate 75 during the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.

It’s likely few of those passing by ever even saw the Macon marker noting 1823 as the year of the city’s founding. Now, you can’t miss it on a newly landscaped slope while cruising into downtown Macon along the Second Street Corridor.
