Renee Taylor is a guest blogger for GPB Education and a Science Lab Instructor at Dunwoody Elementary School in DeKalb County. Having taught 5th grade Math and Science for 9 years, she now enjoys teaching K-5 in the Science Lab where she reinforces Science and Math concepts using the Engineering Design Process. Lego, experimentation, arts, and curriculum are all incorporated to “STEMify” the student’s learning. Renee has a B.B.A. from Texas Christian University and an M.S. from Mercer University in Middle Grades Math with a gifted endorsement and special education consultation. Renee was co-head of the STEM committee at Dunwoody for the two years that it took to earn its Georgia Certified Stem School designation in 2014. In addition, she participated in the GIFT Fellowship at Georgia Tech, under Dr. Jamila Cola and Dr. Peter Hesketh, where she wrote an engineering design lesson “What’s the Harm?” based on her experience. Renee has presented her harmful bacteria lesson at local and international conferences.
