Developing friendships at the office often works to everyone’s advantage: research shows you’ll feel more engaged and it can help teams and departments function more effectively.

But consider this: what would happen if one of your co-workers struck up a friendship with your boss’s boss or someone higher up the office food chain? And then what would happen if some of their non-work exploits ended up on Facebook?
